"Ides of Mae" is a play on words of the Ides of March. The "ides" of a month are the middle of the month-- exactly halfway from the beginning and halfway from the end. Instead of using the month of May, we used the girl's name "Mae". so it's literally, "The middle of Mae"-- a transitional time in her life, exactly halfway between the beginning of something and the end. And Mae isn't anyone specific, she could be any of us.
